Summary: Technogenic deposits can be defined as forms or deposits that are the result of human activity, including deposits constructed as landfills, or induced deposits. These can develop soils called Technosols, that is, soils dominated or strongly influenced by
material introduced by man. Produced and/or constructed intentionally or not, they are an interesting experimental model for obtaining knowledge about the initial stages of pedogenesis, in addition to being great allies in addressing some of the most pressing issues of the Anthropocene. Studies of pedogenesis in Technosols in the tropical environment demonstrate the key role of living beings in the intensification and speed of pedogenetic processes. This progressive pedogenesis guarantees not only the
rehabilitation of degraded areas, but also ecosystem services, as well as the recovery of the natural resource soil. In this new scenario, there is an opportunity to monitor, in a pioneering manner, pedogenic transformations in a new soil of human induction, but transformed by natural processes, initially devoid of well-defined primary pedological structures and with very low levels of organic matter, in its initial stage of development. The objective was to identify the presence of general and specific pedogenic processes in the volume of “technogenic” material used in the landfill process for the construction of the Goiabeiras campus of the Federal University of Espírito Santo, located in the city of Vitória, where, currently, Technosols are the new system, in stark contrast to the old Quartzarenic Neosols and Thiomorphic Gleysols that largely comprised the area of the campus before human intervention. Laboratory, microscopic and spectral techniques will be used to identify pedogenic processes in the Technosol of the study area. Four sampling points were selected on the Campus. Routine chemical and physical analyses were performed on samples of the four soil profiles. In order to obtain greater detail on the mineralogical assembly of the soil in question, X-ray diffractometry (XRD) was also performed on the silt samples from profile 01, using a PANalyticalX Pert device. Profile 01, closest to the mangrove, was selected for greater detail at the microscopic level, so that micromorphological observations were made on samples from this profile. Still in order to understand the environment to which these soils are subjected, piezometers were installed in the four environments to monitor the water table and analyze the physical-chemical parameters of the water using a multiparameter probe, with which the hydrogen potential (pH), oxidation and reduction potential (EH), total dissolved solids (TDS), electrical conductivity (EC), salinity, dissolved oxygen (DO) and temperature were evaluated. So far, pedogenetic processes have been detected in the profiles studied, with clear processes of gleization, rutification, pedalization, melanization, and goethization, and processes of bissialitization and pyritization can also be investigated. Finally, it is highlighted that the geographical perspective of analyzing the relationship between society and nature in an articulated way is quite noticeable in studies related to technogenic deposits, since these deposits cannot be formed without human intervention in the dynamic balance of natural processes.
