Summary: This study aims to understand what relationship venues that performed
cinematographic exhibition, which emerged as representations of modernity and here
conceptualized as cinematographic establishments, had and still have with the urban
space of Vitória, capital of the State of Espírito Santo, and its metropolitan region.
Within this spatial contour, it investigates how these urban forms became spatialized
in the context of the intra-urban centrality dynamics between 1901 (the year of the first
cinema exhibition in a closed venue in Vitória) and 2020, the present year.
Methodologically, in the first place, a bibliographic survey was carried out in physical
and digital collections, followed by the formulation of the problem, and at last, was
performed an organization of the themes discussed in this dissertation, which are: the
processes and aspects related to centrality in the context of the perspectives of
research on urbanization; the formation of the urban space of the capital of Espírito
Santo; the cinematographic market and its relationship with the urban space and the
shopping center as a locus of the hegemonic location of cinematographic activity from
the 1990s onwards. Among the results of the research on cinematographic
establishments in the municipalities that currently compose the RMGV stand out:
production of a summary table with descriptive information; a systematization model of
Periods of Analysis of its spatial-temporal dynamics, associating them with the
urbanization process of the capital; the registration of current uses and what other
activities (economic and non-economic) occupied the buildings or places WHERE they
were installed and the identification of agents (individuals and/or entities/organizations)
related to the activity and the cinematographic market on a local scale in several
temporalities.
